This song is for them. 2 I got tired of people coming up to me at gigs and asking why I don't audition for American Idol At he end of the day AI is a singing competition with no emphasis placed on musicianship or songwriting. This is why the show has yet to (nor do I think it ever will) give us any future iconic music artists that we will be talking about 20 years from now. Here is a short list of musical icons whose vocal ranges would probably be considered to limited to ever make it on the American Idol TV show: Johnny Cash, Neil Young,Willie Nelson,Bono,Mick Jagger,Beck,Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan,Bruce Springsteen,David Bowie,Jim Morrison,Fiona Apple,Perry Farrell,Jimi Hendrix,John Lennon,Keith Richards,Kurt Cobain,Tom Petty, Dave Matthews....And I am just scratching the surface. They are icons not for their vocal range, but for their ability to create and perform songs that speak to our humanity. I think that is also why so many idol albums tank or just do moderate business at best, Only a few idols have had any lasting success). Unfortunately for many people American Idol has become the bar by which "good" music is judged and if it's not on Idol it must not be good. I find this sad because there is alot of great music out there, and people who only listen to what the major corporations tell them to listen to, miss out on all of it. This week the top 4 performed rock songs and also duets, by Duets Adam/Allison Slow Ride Foghat, Danny Gokey and Kris Allen Renegade Styx. Slash of Guns n Roses was mentor. Quentin Tarrentino was the mentor for movie week. Adam Lambert performed a fantastic version of Whole Lotta Love Led Zeppelin and Allison Iraheta performed Cry Baby Janis Joplin and Kris Allen Come Together Beatles Danny Gokey, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert were safe. Allison Iraheta was voted off. Paula Abdul appeared to lip synch Music. The group performed Schools Out. Daughtry performed No Surprise, No Doubt performed Just a Girl. American idol was created by Simon Fuller who created pop idol, Britain's got talent and America's got talent. Adam Lambert is too good for this show.
